How to drink Winter Soul coffee at home
Pour over step-by-step with Head Roaster Alex
Tis the season for holiday comforts, including Hallmark movies, baked goods, hot cocoa, and all of your favorite things. They don’t call this the most wonderful time of the year for no reason! This holiday season, you can enjoy our delicious Guatemalan and Peruvian blend, Winter Soul – one of three brand new winter coffees – at home too. Nirvana Soul Head Roaster Alex is here to show you how in five easy steps below.
Step 1: Gather your things
To get started, you’ll need a Hario V60 set with a coffee filter, a water-filled gooseneck kettle, a scale, your favorite mug, and Winter Soul coffee grounds for your pour over. Below are suggested items for those getting started. Quality and prices of sets, kettles, and scales vary depending on your usage.
Hario V60 set - $26.50
Gooseneck kettle - $32
Scale - $15
Winter Soul - $24
Step 2: Add your coffee
With a quick rinse of your dripper and server, fold your filter in fourths and add a little water around it, then place the filter opened into the dripper. Next, add 25 grams of medium coarse ground coffee and be sure they’re flattened across the top before the next step.

About Winter Soul: With notes of white chocolate, cranberries, and muscovado sugar, this sexy and sultry blend of Guatemalan and Peruvian coffees is perfect for the holidays. Its intoxicating aroma will arouse your senses and become a holiday season staple – there by your side as you create the most beautiful moments.
Step 3: Pour water evenly
Using your gooseneck kettle, evenly pour 50 grams of water on and around the grounds. This step is called “the bloom.” You’ll do this a couple of times (after 30 seconds, you’ll add more water to 200 grams on the scale, then wait for it to drain almost completely; then again you’ll add water to 400 grams before letting it drain all the way) so it might be helpful to watch the full video for this part.
Note: The kettle will heat to boiling initially and you’ll need the water to be less hot than that for brewing. You don’t need to check it every time you pour, just have it closer to (technically) 195°-205°.
Step 4: Wait on it…
Between pours, you’ll have some time on your hands. These are the moments pour over lovers enjoy. It’s a chance to slow down and reset for the day. You can sit back, relax, and allow your coffee to fully drain.
